‘Mumbai Dragon’ enriches ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’

'Mumbai Dragon', which is episode 3 in the Modern Love:

Mumbai anthology is so vividly rich and movingly warm!

Written by Jyotsna Hariharan and Vishal Bhardwaj, it stars the delightfully funny Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann as a Chinese immigrant in Mumbai whơ's reluctant to loosen her hold over her son Meiyang Chang after a non-garlic eating Gujarati girl Wamiqa Gabbi - makes her way into his heart!

Director Vishal Bhardwaj applies a fantastical intense treatment to an inherently funny Script and uses his hold over the craft masterfully!

Smaller but lovely roles by Naseer, his son Imaad Shah and yet another self-deprecating, super fun cameo by Anurag Kashyap (who threatens to send an intern to Motwane) further embellish this already-rich canvas!

I especially loved how Bhardwaj uses misdirection to make the story appear mysterious and intense before peeling layer after layer of warmth and beauty!

Bonus tip - Episode 2: ‘Baai’ by Hansal Mehta and Ankur Pathak is imperfect but a landmark moment for Hindi content as I don’t remember the last time I watched two men get married on screen! Oh and what a delightful performance by the multifaceted Ranveer Brar!
