‘Raat Jawan Hai’ - The triumph of a lightness of touch

'Raat Jawan Hai' on Sony Liv is an extraordinary* show.

2 female friends and 1 guy friend have grown up together to form a trio of best friends. All of them are now married to other people and have kids, yet their friendship flourishes and in fact provides the much needed break that only friends can bring into our lives!

Director Sumeet Vyas has brought the tenderness of his performances into his direction. There is such a warm lightness of touch that the show spreads over you like a comfort blanket.

Almost all performances are out of this world but the ones by Barun Sobti says, Anjali Anand, Hasleen Kaur and Vikram Singh Chauhan deserve special mention. Even the casting of minor characters is to be celebrated. Kudos to Casting Director Gautam Kishanchandani.

Most of the dialogues are a masterclass in wit and so many scenes stand out for how a seemingly ordinary situation is made to jump off the page! Co-creator Khyati Anand-Puthran and dialogue writer Anirban Dasgupta deserve special praise.

This show will resonate even more but not just with young parents, for how authentic and lived-in it feels!

It has been appreciated by commercial and non-commercial critics in equal measure. Such a rare bullseye of a content piece set in an urban upper-class milieu and yet made so accessible. It is the kind of show that makes a viewer yearn for more and a filmmaker like me want to create more. Strongly recommended!

*There are hiccups E03 onwards which make it seem ordinary in places but overall, it is still just so refreshing!
