“Why are fewer people coming to theatres?”
They charge convenience fees for online booking despite the fact that their lives become easier and more people book as they’re assured a seat. They start a film several minutes after the designated starting time. They insert at least 15 Ads before the film, some of which are open government propaganda, at your expense. Despite the Supreme Court making it clear that they never made it mandatory, they force you to stand for the national anthem. They show two grotesque anti-tobacco ads back-to-back every single time. People walk in late flashing their phones to find their seats. People use their phones mid-movie on full brightness, sometimes to use WhatsApp or even Instagram photos from the film. Even if an iota of smoke is seen on screen, they show an intrusive, spoon-fed anti-smoking warning on top of the film. Now they’ve begun blurring shots of alcohol bottles (including in the background) as well. They mute out curse words. They censor and erase entire scenes. If there are less people in the audience, they keep the volume so low that you can’t hear a lot of stuff. Unlike anywhere in the world, they force an interval in so that you buy 300₹+ popcorn. They keep the interval running for sometimes over 15 minutes and cram in 10-20 Ads there as well. Post interval, they disturb you several times by delivering food to everyone’s chairs.
Then they ask why are lesser people coming to movie theatres and more people moving to OTTs!
